Early retirement to Cyprus

Paulie70

Hi all,

A new entrant here.

Will be 55 next year, wife is 50 and we are considering early retirement from UK to Cyprus. Pink slip seems to be the easiest option.

My wife is Filipino and we'd also be interested to spend a few months per year over there. Is it possible via the pink route?

Also what are the healthcare options? Are they likely to be prohibitively expensive without an S1 form (which I think is only available to state pension age?)

many thanks

If it's only a few months ie under 3 months .then YOU can come here on a visitor visa for upto 90 days in 180 and no need for pink slip  .. what passport does your wife hold and travel on..is she a British citizen now with a British passport ?

Paulie70

Thanks. My wife is a British citizen, also Filipino dual. I'd like to stay for up to 9 months of the year and make Cyprus home, rather than UK or Philippines, with a property purchase. Hence the interest in healthcare as well.

Toon

Ok pink slip it is then .. annually renewed for 5yrs then you can apply for PR  and once you have that you can apply for GESY.. untill then am afraid it's private healthcare.

Toon

Or if you have enough cash to buy a property in excess of 300k plus vat then you can achieve PR quicker but may have other criteria to fulfil ie higher income levels.

Paulie70

Thanks for that. Are there some Cypriot specific insurers who can offer reasonable quotes I wonder?

Toon

I don't think there are reasonable rates for healthcare as.one gets older..

"CYPRUS MIGRATION DEPARTMENT - UK EXPATS

You will be aware that if you are a holder of a yellow slip confirming your residency, this will not be valid after mid 2026.   It is recommended that you upgrade your residency to biometric residency as soon as you are able as this will make travel within the European Union simpler."

I have an Alien's registration certificate MRC1 so I am guessing this does not apply to me? I have been waiting for the biometric card for 2 years :-/ I might even have mine by mid 2026 :-)

There is apparently a 3-4 month waiting list for appointments at Paphos immigration so if you are covered by this change it is recommended you book as early as possible for the swap. Given the number of people probably coved by this it might be a big que lol

There in lies the difference on the Eastern side. Request for appointment to appointment and card all within 30 days. Thanks to my local friends as well. Flashed the card with Passport last week at Schipol. Did not even look at the passport.

Was told not to scan UK passport at paphos just scan MUKW1 card on entry:exit - just glanced at it both times and waved us through

I now have the biometric card :-) If I visit the UK do I use the card or still my UK passport? when I return to Paphos airport do I show the card and passport of just the card?

My UK passport expires May 2026 so I will need to get this renewed. Anyone done this whilst living in Cyprus and how was it?

@phildraper

Hi

Passport renewal was really easy and quick..

If i remember I did it all on line, had a new pic taken, got the code for it on line. Had to send old passport back via dhl before they would send new one but it didnt takk more than 2 weeks in total.

Did mine last year. Afraid i dont know about the airport thing with the card.

Cheers

Steven

Biometric card is not valid for travel..for non nationals as it's not an id card but a residence permit.. But to avoid passport stamping always carry and show your biometric card

Passport renewal is easy

@phildraper

Phil,

Have travelled with the Bio card to some 5 EU contries. Have put boththe Passport and card on the desk. They seem to pick up the card and sometimes have a look at the Passport. For the UK-- Passport required.

Way back to Cyprus it has always been the card. Have the Passport handy but they dont seem to bother. This is my experience is all I can say.

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated
