Unpaid car loan

aureleonen

Hello all,

Suppose I get a car loan, and unfortunately I have to leave Bahrain.

  1. What are the options in order to get rid of my liabilities with the car?
  2. Can I just return the car to the dealer and tell them I cannot pay anymore? I'm fine that my previous payments will not be returned to me.
  3. With an unfinished car loan, supposed I could not find someone to transfer all the payment responsibilities, will this hold me in leaving Bahrain?

If there are anyone who has experienced the same thing, kindly advise. Thank you.

Hi,

You will need to find a buyer who will take over your loan, no other option as per my knowledge.

Thank you.

May I ask if you have a know experience whether it is difficult or not to sell these cars to a second hand car dealer shops?

I doubt they will take over your loan, you can contact them and check.

The car is from the dealer and the loan is from the bank.  They are different parties.  Second hand car dealers, as a matter of practice, will not assume car loans.   And they don't buy cars outright (rarely).  They will tell you to park the car at the showroom and when sold, you can use the cash to satisfy the loan.

Till now, you can leave Bahrain with a pending loan as long as the bank hasn't initiated recovery proceedings and slapped you with a travel ban.  Just don't plan on coming back if you leave this way.
