Exploring Portugal as American ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵs

dcolangelo

My wife and I are exploring the opportunities of either retiring in Portugal full time or part time from Florida.   My wife is of Colombian accent, and I am born and raised in Pennsylvania and now Florida for the past 45 years.  We are looking for a stable environment, quality of food, golf and just enjoying others along life's journey.   We live in the Tampa, FL area now and would like to visit Portugal for a few weeks asap to check things out.

If there is anyone that can reach out to me about living in Portugal it would be much appreciated.

Sincerely,

David Colangelo

This topic has already been discussed a lot here. Please use the website search function (‘search lens' in the top right-hand corner). Here's a list of golf courses. You can select each one for details.

Perhaps it's a starting point to begin your search for possible locations.

Dear David,

We live in your neighborhood (Clearwater/Dunedin).

We are also on the way moving to Portugal.

Last March (2024) we were there and next month we will go once again.

If you are interested, we can share our findings.

Send me a message.

@Hans4. Great to hear from you…. Yes any info that you can pass on would be great.  I have lived in Oldsmar for the past 24 years and just moved to Brooksville Fl.

When are you going back to Portugal?

How long will you stay?

I have many questions.

Sincerely

David

Hi David.  My wife and I are in very similar situation, so would be interested in any responses you get as well as your thoughts on the first steps.  We are both hesitant about jumping in, but planning on visiting this year to at least see if we like it.

Hi David!

My husband and I will be in Portugal & Spain for the first time this May. We, too, are looking to move out of the US into a more simple, inexpensive life. We are in Colorado but grew up in Massachusetts.

Hi Hans!

I would also be interested in what you find in Portugal. We are going in May for the first time, but if you find a nice area, please share that with us. We might be able to explore it in May.

Thanks!

Sandy

I am trying to get information as well.  My husband and I are visiting in April/ May as well.  I am arranging to meet with an attorney as my main concerns are tax laws and medical insurance.  I am having trouble getting specific information and am arranging to meet with an attorney when there the end of April.  Have one attorney I have contacted but would be interested in other names. Probably need a tax person for more info on that piece.   Thanks for any info others have received.  My husband and I are over 70.

Hi, we've gathered some info and data to help fellow expats in the transition. We live in Tomar, a small expat-friendly town. The expat communities have been supporting new residents for the past 10 years. You may find some interesting info here

As for medical insurance you may buy a healthcare plan with Medis, it's cheaper than insurance plans but it covers part of yr medical  (and if included, dental) expenses. Public hospitals still offer emergency care, so you won't need to show your credit card. At least, for the time being.

Hi Sandy, how about this area?

sandyjames294

Thank you Santi2 for the Central Portugal blog. It looks wonderful!

We are visiting Portugal/Spain in May for the first time. Tomar is on our itinerary. We want a simpler life with better weather (we live in snow country in the UD). Thank you.
