French drivers license (Beziers)

orcuttnyc

Unfortunately New York is not on the license exchange list.

I've been trying to find out with no success.

As an older driver, will I have to take the theory test as well as the road test?

I don't speak French, but i've 'read' that I can get the theory test either in English or hire a translator?

I'm assuming i'll need a translator for the road test as well.

Does anyone know of an English speaking drivers school in Beziers?

Thanks

Hi Orcuttnyc

I live in central Béziers and help folk here with their installation. I have sent you a couple of messages as I have reliable immobilier contacts and have helped US clients through the driving test process.

Best, Nicole :)

Thank you!

I have a brother who lives in Maryland, and two months before moving to France, I am going to change my New York State drivers license for a Maryland one. Just to try and avoid French driving school.

A it tricky but better than trying to take the theory and road tests.

After applying, getting your French driver's License will take a year if things are the same as 4 years ago. They do not like doing this and make it difficult because all French people have to go to driving school. After the Prefecture accepts your application for your French license, it will take a year to get your new Mayland US driver's license. Take a picture of your New York driver's license and get someone to photograph both sides. Get the photos certified. You could also do the same with the Maryland Drivers License. For a backup. All you need for the Police in France is an unexpired  US driver's license and a certified translation of both sides into French if it is just a random traffic stop. That should get you through the year. You can get them from AAA but can not renew them in Europe. Go to the Internet and look for a certified French-English-language translator in France. It is easy and inexpensive, and you can get the certified translation emailed overnight. Because of the recent date, the French will want to know why you just got the Maryland driver's license. They wanted to know when I first got a driver's License. Mine was renewed a year earlier, and I lived in five States and had a license for 52 years. That made it okay, and the driver's license was in the mailbox in 30 days. So, that exchange made it a year and three months to get mine.

No staples and always A4 paper. Just be nice and polite; all the papers should be in the order of the request on A4 paper, with no stapes. It will be done. And good for fifteen years.

Everything I am doing is very legal. We will be selling our house in NY with no further residence in NY. . That is when i'll switch licenses and will then only have a Maryland license. I'll have to surrender my NY license.

I have drivers records for my past two licenses, NY&Fl.

Yes, i've read about needing translations and will do that.
