Had a quick question from my non EU Bulgarian D visa holders, I recently went to Bulgaria to rent an apartment and start the whole retirement visa process, but because I did not have my Social Security card I could not open a bank account, the ...

@PSSA You need an account which has a real Bulgarian IBAN - I doubt that MVR will accept anything that's "indirect".. Read More

@mtm1128 You never know your luck, but I'd wager that you're going to find it tough to find anyone to buy into your scheme. Asking for a friend: you aren't my long-lost rich Nigerian uncle, are you? Read More

I seem to be getting confused with everything I need to do for the Visa D.What documents do I need to get an apostille for (passport, birth certs, bank statements?) ?Do I then have to get them translated into Bulgarian? Then I submit them with the ...

There are other potential "benefits" associated with your pension being paid directly into a Bulgarian bank account: banks here charge their account holders ongoing fees just for the privilege of having an account, and there are often additional ... Read More

Re-location questions by Sleep Near
Hello,We will be relocating to Burgas (most likely) in the relatively near future. Suggestions as to how to find an apartment, honest real estate agent, and English speaking medical providers would be appreciated.

Welcome! When you say "find an apartment" do you mean to rent or to buy and, if the former, are you looking for short-term or long-term? Just to be clear, I don't have any property in that neck of the woods, but a long-term rental will be cheaper ... Read More

@gwynj It's called "legalisation" by the UK authorities because they, possibly correctly, believe that the proverbial "Man on the Clapham Omnibus" doesn't understand what "apostille" means (they are probably right as many Brits appear to think that ... Read More

Septic tanks by Sharonprice252
Can someone give us a rough price of buying and installing a septic tank for a 4 bedroom house , thank you

It's a "piece of string" question, I'm afraid. It depends on the size, site, how fancy an installation you want, whether it's done on the QT or with full permissions etc...You'd be better talking to a company which specialises in them; your local ... Read More

Sharing Property Search Feedback by JimJ
We get lots of requests for advice about areas that people are considering but very little, if any, feedback on how those searches are going, what the searchers did/didn't like when they got there, what real condition the properties are in ...

That sounds more like an estimate than a quote - an important difference. My advice would be that you need to be on-site every day of the project, as it's easy for everyone to think that they're on the same page but actually to be talking about ... Read More

Just to add to the prices debate...we bought a wreck (rebuild job) with about 400 square meters of garden in the "ideal" centre of a smaller city....just under 5 years ago for €30k. We've done absolutely nothing with it since. Looking at ... Read More

Good morning. We would be grateful if anyone can help us out in choosing the right hospital/clinic in Sofia for a colonoscopy. We will be paying for the operation. Thank you.

Coincidentally, I'm visiting my mother-in-law in a hospice after a massive stroke, and my wife is in Intensive Care after another major cancer-associated operation. I know more about the BG health system than I care to... Read More

Once you're registered with the BG health service, GP visits are just a couple of leva a time. It's another 2 leva per injection, if needed. Drugs are paid for in full, unless you have certain illnesses, eg cancer. Read More
