Digital Nomad Visa Renewal
@californiainbrazil
I'm pretty sure you need to go to the one in your home state. I've found that if you have any questions about things like this and can't find the answer it's easiest to just make a trip to the policia federal. The easiest counter to ask questions like these is usually the tourist visa extension one ime.
I had the same thing happen to me as to the appointments being available. If you can't get an appointment within 30 days they're going to fine you for each day after. In your situation, I'd honestly take all your paperwork with you and go explain that to them at the policia federal + ask your rio question.
Now, the really annoying thing about if you have to pay the fine for not being able to register past the 30 days (even though it's not your fault) is that they'll flag you at the airport every time you enter/exit Brazil for having had a fine.
If you're flagged at the airport each time, where the passport control employee has to take your passport to the police officers for approval while you wait, here is a tip:
Before your next trip, take whatever proof/fines/payments you have to the Tourist visa extension section @sovelong mentioned and they can get rid of that problem.
An passport controller told me that the airport police cannot override those flags or warnings so it needs to be done at a Policia Federal branch outside the airport.

Happy to hear it's at least sorted out and Deferido! Thanks for sharing your timeline.
I want to repeat a tip, just in case you or someone else following the information here's not aware, because I wasn't in my first application:
On the main page of Migranteweb, Ações de Processo, once it says Deferido and it'll stay that way and not update anymore. I had found it was published by checking the DOU daily. But clicking the magnifying glass 🔎 icon next to your application, that following page you can follow all the steps.
If it's not yet published, I would check if there's anything out of ordinary on that page. Normally it has to say something like "Waiting to be published" I guess. - @rocade
That's exactly what happened and what I didn't realise until the same day of your post (coincidentally without seeing your post). I don't get how it is so bad developed in such way, the only thing I can think about is they do it on purpose to fine you for delaying.
As an additional warning, during that time I also checked the DOU to know if my name was on it, but even that has a trick if you don't read it fully and manually by yourself. Since the documents are extense, I used the tool to search by text (CTRL + F) and in some documents it got some results searching by the resoluçao's title, but not in others, assuming there were no resolutions in such document. But again, they tricked me, it seems that some documents are uploaded as pictures inserted into PDFs or similar, so the search function doesn't work.
In summary, don't expect things work as expected and just expect the worst when it's about tech. Double and triple check everything.

The search system for the DOU is not very user-friendly and so it's susceptible to user error, but it's accurate and there's a relatively foolproof way to search for yourself:
- Go to
- Put a unique and hard to mistype item in the "Pesquisa" box -- the ideal search item is the number of a Brazilian ID document:Â CRNM number for residents, CIN/RG number for citizens, CPF if you know that you provided it for the document you're looking for.
- Mark "Pesquisa Avançada"
- In the menu that drops down, pick "Resultado Exato" in "Tipo de Pesquisa"
- Pick "Tudo" in "Onde Pesquisar"
- Pick "Personalizado" in "Data" Set a period during which you think that the item appeared, and make sure it slightly overlaps with the last period you searched. I generally use a month.
- Pick "Todos" in "Jornal"
- Pick whichever you want in "Forma de Pesquisa". I general find "Ato-a-Ato" satisfactory. "Versão Certificada" comes back as a searchable PDF, if you prefer that format.
- Pick "Por Data" in "Ordenação"
That should give you your document, if it has been issued. If not, try the same thing in a few days, moving the search period forward.
@rocade
Nice, I'll do that next time I have to go to the Policia Federal. Hopefully soon - just sent off my application to try and do a second DN renewal. I believe that's actually the counter I paid the fine at but I don't remember them ever given me an actual receipt - will have to check my documents folder.
I forgot to sign the Annexo and now it says "Tendo em vista que a documentação não está assinada pelo interessado, apresentar novo Formulário de Requerimento de Autorização de Residência, conforme Anexo I, assinado pelo interessado ou por seu representante legal." Do I need to redo the application? I don't see where to upload the signed copy.
Edit:Â Figured out. Man, that was some bad UI/UX. Hope it doesn't delay my application too much.
Interesting though, I actually forgot to sign it the first time and they approved the application. I noticed that, because I just edited the previous form I submitted.
Just sent in my renewal paperwork last week thanks to all the help here in this forum! Truly hope they don't request for more documents as my RNM card expires May 29th. If they don't process my renewal in time I may have to leave the country and find a way to come back.
For those who recently received their renewal, how long is the processing taking? Trying to make a back up plan just in case.
@dfray
As long as you've put in the application you don't have to leave the country if it's not processed in time. In fact, it would be worse if you did that. You're allowed to be here until a decision is made - and you can print off a relatorio certidao tramite that says such on migranteweb.
In any case, you should be fine. Mine was processed in ~20 days and I forgot to sign something which only ended up adding an extra 3 days.
@sovelong
thank you the response! good to hear that it was a fairly quick process for you.
I submitted all my documents about 3 weeks ago.. they came back and wanted official translations of my work contract and my bank statement. I am an independent contractor and I have clients. I don't have an employer, and I think that's a hard concept for whoever is analyzing my docs to grasp.
I sent them back the official translations, and now they are saying:
"PROPOSTA DE INDEFERIMENTO"
"Considerando que não foi possÃvel identificar o prazo do Contrato e Contratado Independente. Considerando que existe divergência entre o documento original e a tradução da Comprovação de meios de subsistência. Diante do exposto, somos pelo INDEFERIMENTO do pedido."
I have an ongoing contract with my client and that was in the official translation I paid for. There is no end and it does have all the terms listed. I don't know what more they want? Does this mean they rejected my application? Has anyone had an application "INDEFERIMENTO"? I don't know how to appeal it or send another doc as it is not giving me that option. So stressful 🙃
04/14/25 @dfray. "Indeferimento" does mean "rejection". The reason given is a discrepancy between the Sworn Translation(s) and the original(s) of your proof of income. Talk to the Sworn Translator about how to resolve it. As for the lack of a term for the contract, the Sworn Translator may be able to adjust the Sworn Translation to resolve that.
@abthree
Thanks! I'll check. The confusing part, is it's not even giving me an opportunity to upload a revised document like they gave me before. I tried to email imigrante.cgil@mj.gov.br and received no response. Hoping eventually the website updates where I can upload more docs 😅
@dfray
Another member had mentioned before that they were asked to provide a contract with an indefiniteperiod. There might have been a similar problem.
Unfortunately it seems like they didn't give you a second chance to correct your documents otherwise it would say Exigencia rather than Proposta de Indeferimento - Suggestion of Rejection. Not rejected yet but it means an officer suggested the rejection of your application, soon there will be a final decision. If it becomes Indeferido that will mean it's rejected.

Here is the other post that might be helpful: /forum/viewtopic.p … =6#5974933
If you can, try to explicitly include the words that they want to see in the contract. Indefinite period. Permanent. Etc.
@rocade
Ah! I wish I would have read that post before getting my translation done 😑 Hopefully they'll give me another chance as I've already invested so much time in the renewal. Thank you very much for your response. Super helpful!
@bennyllero
hello! are you able to give the exact wording you used in the new clause on your updated contract convincing them it was "indeterminado"? I was denied for the same reason, and now have to pay for another translation after I change my work contract 🙃
Here is the updated language I had included in my contract when mine was rejected. Be sure it resigned by both you and your employer and dated with the new signature date.
His hire date was xxx yy, 2020 with no end date for employment (indefinite). His title is xxxxx and he is performing yyyy and zzzz duties and he can work remotely, as permitted by this contract.
