Yes I applied to get an appointment and the first thing you get before choose the municipality is a QR code and then you have to show it when you will go to the appointment beside passport.

I am asking because I would like to come in Netherlands in March to get the RNI , then back in Ireland and move to Netherlands in May or June , basically this is the plan. I need to understand if that is possible.

Thanks for the explanation, I wasn't aware that the Dutch were using QR codes for this matter, so I am now better informed.

RNI is the name of a database where the Dutch Government keep the details of people who need to be able to interact with the Dutch Government; for example, my wife is a Dutch citizen, but no longer lives in the Netherlands, when we left, we deregistered and my wife's details were transferred to the RNI database as she was a Dutch citizen who still needs to communicate certain things to the Dutch Government using the Dutch Government DigiD system you get once you are registered and have your BSN number, but she is no longer resident.聽 It's also used by other non-Dutch nationals who are coming to work on specific projects/ in the Netherlands - in the latter example, it's a catch-all for people who are living in the Netherlands and need to be able to register with a doctor or open a bank account, but not permanently.

You're an EU citizen and have the right to live and work in the Netherlands, registration is part of the process you go through once you come to the Netherlands to live (basically if you are coming to stay in the Netherlands for more than 4 months, you must register on arrival, so you don't need to register on the RNI before you arrive, you have 5 days from the date you arrive to live in the Netherlands, to make an appointment at your local Gemeente, when you attend for that appointment, the Gemeente will decide which database is appropriate for your circumstances.

I just realised that I actually didn't answer your question.聽 The answer is yes, you need to be living at an address in the Netherlands when you register, you can't register from an Irish address.

thank you so much this is was the answer I was looking for , because I noticed that is quite easy to get the appointment in the municipality, but I was not sure if it is mandatory to have already an address in Netherlands. So I will get the RNI once I move there.

If you're staying more than three months, you should NOT register on the RNI, but the BRP.聽 This will require a valid address you can register at.聽 This has become a bit of a "thing" in the housing crisis (very difficult to find a legal rental unless you have a great income).聽

Having the BSN on the RNI is fine, if you've already done it.聽 But this is for non-residents.聽 If you will stay beyond four months, you are required to register on the BRP (the residents' register).聽 That will mean having a valid rental contract to show to the gemeente (municipality).聽 They may also ask for birth certificate and passport (they actually register your parents' information, as well, should you end up marrying in the country - at least that's the reason I was given, but they required the birth certificate, and it needs to be apostilled).聽
