Tax on UK pensions whilst living in France

angelbreeze

Hello, I am a retired lady moving from the UK to France on 1st December this year.  I receive a UK state pension (not taxed) plus 3 very small private pensions from past employers (taxed). I understand all 4 pensions may be taxed when in France and would appreciate advice from retired expats living in France on how to retain as much of their pensions as possible.  Thank you.

hi, I am a Belgian retired man living in France. I get my retirement money from Belgium and I have declared to the French government my "0" income from french activities.
Result : I am taxed in Belgium and not in France. Bonus : I profit of legal advantagen in France because I declare my not-income here :)

There is a form you get from the UK tax authorities which is in English and French for the double taxation treaty. Basically, you have to fill it in and send it to the French tax authorities who will then send it back to you to return to the UK. All your income is taxable in France, but if you have UK government pensions, these are always taxed at source in the UK. You still have to declare everything to the French. You really need an English-speaking tax person in France to help you through it. The first tax return will be a manual one and thereafter it will be online.
