Divorce after 10 years marriage. What happens to kitap?

kevinbukindo

Hi everyone,

My wife and I have just processed our divorce.

I'm a permanent resident with permanent kitap. We were married over 10 ten years. She still wants to be my sponsor as we have a child and we are very amicable.

Is there anything I need to do now or just continue until next reporting date on my kitap which is 2027.

We haven't collected divorce cert yet as it's not ready.

I'm in Bali.

Thank for any advice!

You must report your change to immigration.

There was a change in the law some years ago that allows you to keep residency after 10 years of marriage, even after divorce. Was it actually 10 years, or your tenth year?

If a full 10 years, you're probably going to be fine.

I'm way out of date on this but the above should give you enough to start googling.

@Fred

Thanks Fred. Okay I'll start at imigrasi.

Yes actually over 11 years.

Our divorce cert is ready but my wife has to personally collect it from Jakarta which is a pain as we both live in Bali and cannot make a Surat kuasa for someone else to collect it...

I wonder if there's a time limit to report to imigrasi..

I would be tempted to get imigrasi in the loop as quickly as possible.

Quick reporting might make things smoother.

Check the regs before you do anything.
