Hi there.

The airline you wish to fly on can give you some information.

How old is your dog, and breed? Are you planning to fly on a direct flight -- British Airways, or Air Mauritius?

I am sure you have looked at all the paperwork, vaccinations, etc required, as well as the regulations about importing animals into Mauritius.

Pet relocation agencies in the UK can do all the paperwork, work out which routes would be suitable, how you should be travelling, etc. BA has a name on their website as far as I remember. I do not know if I am allowed to write their names here on this forum but you could always send me a message. I had looked seriously into this just before Covid, so things might have changed now.

Please do let us know how you get along.

Best wishes.

Looks like I might be able to help you again!

You will need both an agency in the UK and one here in Mauritius to bring your dog through customs and into quarantine.  Here in Mauritius for our cat we used PAWS

In Canada, we used a company called Worldwide Animal Travel.  They were amazing!  There is a lot of things to consider:  In Canada, we had to go through the same procedure as exporting any animal/food.  There were vaccinations that had to be given at particular intervals before export, and then again after import.  There were veterinary documents that had to be filled in and signed guaranteeing health, vaccination status, and that he was neutered.  Fortunately, our vet had experience with the process.  Some of it was extremely time sensitive.

That agency partnered with PAWS who looked after the import documentation, release from customs, and transport to quarantine.

The quarantine centre is by the University.  The staff there are amazing!  You will need to provide food for the duration.  Cats are there for 5 days, but dogs might have to stay longer ... it depends on where they come from so you will want to check.  There are set visiting hours.

It took us several months to get everything in place to export/import our cat!

Thank you everyone for all your useful advice, and to Chris for all the additional information.  We do understand that it is a rather complicated process with a lot of paperwork, and that is why we require the services of a pet agent both in the UK and Mauritius, and we realise there is quarantine min 5 days. Our dog is 9 years old, neutered and chipped male Maltese x terrier.  I will look into all the suggestions  which are very helpful,  many thanks Nick
